Conflict Resolution
Home  Previous  Next

A scheduling, or recording, conflict occurs when the amount of recordings scheduled for a particular time exceeds the number of tuners capable of recording them. This happens comparatively rarely, since the scheduling system is programmed to be aware of multiple airings of an episode or movie and will automatically choose one that does not conflict in each case.

Note: Conflict Resolution is not available when scheduling, remotely or locally, via SnapStream.Net. Recordings scheduled via SnapStream.Net will either be added at the lowest, or highest, recording priority available, as configured in the SnapStream.Net Settings section of the ViewScape interface. This means that recordings scheduled in this manner will either defer to all (when set to add at "lowest priority") or no (when set to add at "highest priority") scheduled recordings.

When a conflict is detected, the following screen will appear depending on whether a single recording (a movie, or an episodic show when "record this episode" is selected), or multiple ("record all" or "record all new") recordings are being scheduled:

If a single recording is being scheduled:
If multiple recordings are being scheduled:

·Record this episode: Increases the priority of the show being scheduled so that it supersedes any conflicting scheduled recordings.
·Record this movie at this time: Increases the priority of the movie being scheduled so that it supersedes any conflicting scheduled recordings.
·View and resolve conflicts manually: Brings up the Conflict Resolution screen. This selection enables the user to specifically define which shows should and should not be recorded by raising or lowering their priority. See below for details and instructions.
·Do not record this episode at this time: Does not schedule the episode, regardless of when it occurs, for recording. Recommend using "View Upcoming Episodes" to find any recurring airings of this episode and scheduling from there.
·Cancel: Cancels out of this screen and returns to the scheduling selection dialogue.
·Record all episodes or Record all new episodes: Increases the priority of each episode being scheduled so that they supersede any conflicting scheduled recordings.
·Record non-conflicting episodes: Leaves the priority of each episode being scheduled where it is, which results in the recording of only the episodes which do not conflict with previously scheduled recordings.
·View and resolve conflicts manually: Brings up the Conflict Resolution screen. This selection enables the user to specifically define which shows should and should not be recorded by raising or lowering their priority. See below for details and instructions.
·Do not record any episodes: Does not schedule any of the episodes for recording.
·Cancel: Cancels out of this screen and returns to the scheduling selection dialogue.

If the user selects View and resolve conflicts manually, the following screen will appear:

fsgui076

This screen lists all of the recordings that are attempting to be scheduled. In each section, the recording being scheduled is listed along with any other recordings that are occurring at the same time, along with the channel upon which they are being recorded, the day and date of the recording, and the start time of the recording.

Only the recordings bearing the red dot (reddot) next to their title will record. In the first listed example above, the first "Seinfeld" episode, "The Stall" conflicts with three other scheduled recordings and by default will not be recorded. The episode listed second, "The Marine Biologist," does not conflict and is recorded by default.

Use the UPARROW or DOWNARROW to highlight the specific recording. Use LEFTARROW or RIGHTARROW to highlight the action to be taken:
·Lower Priority: Lowers the priority of the show being scheduled, ensuring that it does not get recorded. This option changes to Raise Priority if the priority of the show being scheduled is already the lowest.
·Raise Priority: Raises the priority of the show being scheduled, ensuring that it gets recorded. This option changes to Lower Priority if the priority of the show being scheduled is already the highest.
·Cancel: Cancels out of this screen and returns to the conflict dialogue (see above).

Highlighting the first group, in which the episode conflicts, and selecting "Raise Priority" results in the following:

The priority of the first "Seinfeld" episode has been raised above that of "American Dragon" and will be recorded instead. Select Done when finished adjusting the priority of the conflicting recordings, and they will be scheduled accordingly.
