It is not possible to select WMV as the recording format, or stream Live TV via the Web Admin interface, when using hardware encoding tuner devices.
The "ERROR! - Failed to start web viewing" error message may appear when attempting to stream Live TV from the Web Admin interface if the option appears. This applies to systems using tuner / capture devices with built-in encoding ("hardware encoding"), such as Hauppauge's WinTV PVR-250 or the Adaptec VideOh! USB 2.0. The reason this occurs is because streaming via the Web Admin interface can only be done in the Windows Media format. In a software-encode setup, Beyond TV receives a raw, uncompressed video stream which it can then compress to the WIndows Media format realtime. However, with hardware encoders, Beyond TV is being fed a compressed video stream (typically MPEG-2) and does not have the capability to uncompress and recompress the feed realtime.
Beyond TV Link can be used to stream live TV and the entire Beyond TV experience to other PCs inside the home, regardless of whether your tuner card using software encoding or hardware encoding.
