The actions that users are allowed to take in Beyond TV 4 are determined by their assignment to a user group. The permissions settings for each group are available in the Add / Edit Local Group menu.

NOTE: If a user does not have permission to use a feature, that feature will not appear in the interface when they log in.

With the permission:
Users can:


Watch Live TV

Access Live TV from the Link client main menu

Choose Watch This Episode for in-progress programs in the Program Guide



Watch Recorded Shows

Access Recorded Shows from the Link client or Web Admin

Search Recordings from the Link client or Web Admin


Delete Recorded Shows

Delete recorded shows, including shows that are marked Keep Until I Delete (Read-Only)



Edit Recorded Shows

Change Lock status between Keep Until I Delete and Keep Until Space is Needed

Edit metadata for recorded shows in the Web Admin

Acces the Options menu in the Web Admin library






Burn DVDs


Burn DVDs in the Link client



Download Files

Download recordings from the Link client or Web Admin

Add RSS feeds to iTunes in iTunes Integration Settings in the Web Admin

NOTE: Users without the ability to add RSS feeds to their iTunes in the Web Admin can still add RSS feeds by entering the RSS address into iTunes or another RSS feeder manually.


Create Post Processes


Create one-time ShowSqueeze or SmartSkip jobs








Create New Recordings

Set up new recordings in the Link client or Web Admin

NOTE: Users who have the Create New Recordings permission but NOT the Edit Recordings permission will be able to create new recording jobs only at the lowest priority, and they will not have an option to resolve conflicts that will prevent the shows that they schedule from being recorded. Recording jobs created by such users will be prioritized on a first-come, first-served basis.



Edit Recordings


Change any option on upcoming recordings in the Link client or Web Admin

Manage conflict resolution

Change Recording Settings and Priorities


Administer Post-Processes


Cancel ShowSqueeze and SmartSkip jobs




Administer Server Settings

View and edit any settings.

When this permission is disabled, only settings specific to the user's account, such as that user's TV Alerts, iTunes settings and display properties, will be available.




Administer User Permissions

Create and manage user accounts and groups

Reset forgotten user passwords.

NOTE: Passwords for LDAP-linked users must be changed through Windows and cannot be managed through Beyond TV 4.
