Watching Recordings

To watch previously recorded shows, select "Recorded Shows" from the Home menu, an example of which is shown below:

Note: A message reading "Populating the library..." may appear from time to time when accessing Recorded Shows as the software refreshes the list. This important step helps to keep the list accurate and to maintain responsiveness when navigating long lists of shows.

A list of recordings will appear upon entry to Recorded Shows, much like the following example:

Recordings that have not been watched yet will be marked "N" for new. By default, this property is user-dependent; that is, each user has an individual list of shows that have and have not been watched. To change this option, see Miscellaneous Settings.


Hit the O key to bring up additional options for displaying recordings in the library:

Hide
Hide all Original (MPEG-2) recordings, hide all ShowSqueezed (WMV, DIVX or H.264) recordings, or Replace Original recordings with ShowSqueezed versions (when a ShowSqueezed version is available).

Sort By
Options are Date Recorded, Original Air Date and Name.

Sort Order
Options are Ascending and Descending.


Highlight the desired show. To play the recording directly, hit the "P" key on the keyboard, or press PLAY on a remote control. Otherwise, click the mouse or hit Enter. A screen like the example below will appear:

The following options are available on this screen:

Play
Begins playback of the recording.

Delete File
Deletes the recording.

ShowSqueeze
Queues this individual recording to be compressed by ShowSqueeze.

Keep Until ("Locking")
Specifies if the software should delete this recording if space is needed for another recording.
·Keep until space is needed: This file will be deleted if it is the oldest recording on a hard drive upon which space is needed for another recording.  
·Keep until I delete it: This recording will never be deleted automatically.  
Recordings with this setting will be marked with a "lock" icon in Recorded Shows:

Add to DVD
Queues the recording for DVD Burning and takes the user to the DVD Burning section available from the Home menu. See the DVD Burning section of this document for more information.

Note: It is only possible to burn Standard Definition (SD) recordings (non-HDTV recordings) to a Video DVD. See the DVD Burning Settings section of this document for more details.

Back to Recorded Shows
Returns the user to the list of Recorded Shows.


Selecting "Play" in the above example produces the following screen:

To pause and to resume playback:
·Keyboard: Hit the space bar. To resume playback, hit the space bar again.  
·Remote Control: Hit the PAUSE button. To resume playback, hit the PLAY or PAUSE button.  
·Mouse: Click the pause icon ( mouseicon003 ) located on the on-screen mouse control element. This icon is a pause / play toggle, and will change to a play icon once playback is paused.  

To rewind and to fast-forward:
·Keyboard: Use the LEFTARROW to rewind, and the RIGHTARROW to fast-forward.  
·Remote Control: Use the REWIND button to rewind, and the FF button to fast forward.  
·Mouse: Click on the track bar at the bottom of the screen in the desired location to jump to that part of the recording. The bar that indicates "current time" can also be dragged with the mouse.  

To skip forward or back:
·Keyboard: Use the comma (,) and period (.) keys to skip backwards and forwards, respectively.  
·Remote Control: There are rarely enough buttons on most remotes to include this feature. On the Firefly remote, use the PREV and NEXT buttons to skip backwards and forwards, respectively.  
·Mouse: Click on the track bar at the bottom of the screen in the desired location to jump to that part of the recording. The bar that indicates "current time" can also be dragged with the mouse.  

To play back frame by frame:
·Click the pause icon ( mouseicon003 ) or hit the spacebar.  
·Use the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys to move forward and backward frame by frame.

To specify the amount of time (in seconds) that the skip function moves forward or moves back, refer to the Player Settings section of this document.  
 

To adjust the volume:
·Keyboard: Use the plus (+) and minus (-) keys to adjust volume.  
·Remote control: use the volume buttons to adjust volume.  
·Mouse: Mouseover the speaker icon at the top right corner of the screen. It will change to display a bar:

Click on the bar -- either above or below the current indicated volume level -- to adjust volume in that direction. The bar can also be dragged with the mouse.

·Keyboard: Hit the F7 key.  
·Mouse: Click the clock icon at the top right corner of the screen.
