Adjusting Video Settings
Home  Previous  Next

During playback of recorded shows or Live TV, the user may access a menu allowing modification of settings governing audio and video playback. This menu, pictured below, can be accessed by pressing the letter O key on the keyboard, the Options button on a FireFly remote, or by clicking on tool (MOUSEICON001) icon on the on-screen mouse control element, an example of which is pictured below:

The following screen will appear:

fsgui_playbackoptions

Note: The Brightness, Contrast, and Gamma settings are only available when using the "3D Accelerated" renderer for playback. To change which renderer is being used, modify the "Video Renderer" setting located in the Playback Settings section of the ViewScape Interface.

Brightness
Adjusts the brightness level of the overall picture. Raise this value if the entire picture is too dim, and lower it if the entire picture is too bright. This corresponds to the "Brightness" setting on a television set. Acceptable values range from 1 to 100.

Contrast
Adjusts the level of similarity between light and dark in the picture. Raise this value if blacks appear as grey, and lower it if dim scenes in the picture are nearly invisible, but brightly lit scenes are intense. This corresponds to the "Contrast" or "Picture" setting on a television set. Acceptable values range from 1 to 100.

Gamma
Gamma adjustments increase or decrease the amount of brightness and of contrast in a picture simultaneously. Acceptable values range from 1 to 100.

Deinterlacing
This option only displays the current deinterlacing mode, as real-time adjustment of this value is not possible. This value can be changed in the Player Settings section of the Settings menu.

Aspect Ratio
Sets the ratio of the width of the display in relation to its height. If this setting is incorrect, the picture will appear distorted The default aspect ratio of a televison screen or monitor is 4:3, so a setting of "Auto" should ensure proper playback in most cases.
·Auto: The Viewscape will attempt to size the video appropriately.
·Stretch: Stretches the video to fill the dimensions of the ViewScape window (if the ViewScape interface is windowed) or the screen (if the ViewScape interface is maximized)
·4:3: Forces the video into a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is appropriate for standard televisions and computer monitors.
·16:9: Forces the video into a 16:9 aspect ratio, which is appropriate for many plasma televisions.
·Letterboxed: Pulls the top and bottom edges of the screen out so that they are not displayed. Use this option to get rid of black bars at the top and bottom of a screen.
·Pillarboxed: Pulls the left and right edges of the screen out so that they are not displayed. Use this option to get rid of black bars at the left and right of a screen.
·Zoom: Zooms in on the image; the net result is a combination of Letterboxed and Pillarboxed above.

Note: When the Beyond TV ViewScape is in windowed mode (i.e. not filling the entire screen), the aspect ratio of the window itself is locked by default. This selection overrides the Stretch setting in the Adjust Video Settings window. To use a stretched window, set the "Lock Aspect Ratio" option to Disabled from the View menu.

Speaker Mode
Allows the user to select the output method used by the Viewscape. Options include 2-channel stereo, (2-ch), 5.1 channel output, or S/PDIF output.

Reset to Defaults
If a number of adjustments have been made without achieving a satisfactory result, use this option to restore the default settings.
