Hauppauge Computer Works Bundles TV Recording Software from Snapstream Media, Extending TV Products Into Home Networking, Pocket PCs
The SnapStream - Hauppauge WinTV combination enables PC users to watch TV over the home network and on Pocket PC devices.
September 24, 2001 (HOUSTON) - Today, SnapStream Media announced that Hauppauge Computer Works (NASDAQ symbol: HAUP) has begun bundling a demo version of its SnapStream PVS TV recording software with its WinTV TV tuner board products. Hauppauge is the market leading developer and
manufacturer of hardware products that enable TV viewing and recording on the PC. SnapStream PVS enables WinTV users to easily record their favorite television shows and then watch those recordings over the home network on mobile devices, such as Pocket PC devices or laptop devices.
Hauppauge's WinTV boards, compatible with Microsoft Windows95, 98, 2000 and Windows XP, enable personal computers to receive and display up to 125 cable channels in an adjustable window without affecting other software programs in use. SnapStream PVS enables TV to be recorded into an MPEG-4
Windows Media file on that PC. With MPEG-4, SnapStream recordings consume less hard-disk space and less bandwidth when streamed over the home network or the Internet. Once recorded, SnapStream enables those TV recordings to be streamed out to other devices on the home network and be copied to
mobile devices, such as any Pocket PC PDA.
"SnapStream PVS makes it easy and fun for anyone with a Hauppauge WinTV to easily record their favorite TV shows and they can watch them anywhere on the home network and on PDA devices," said SnapStream Media CEO Rakesh Agrawal. "The combination of Hauppauge hardware and
SnapStream software is a digital media experience that delivers on the idea of television anytime, anywhere."
Ken Plotkin, Hauppauge Computer Works' Chief Executive Officer stated, "With the demo version of SnapStream included with our WinTV boards, we can now support TV over home networks and TV into the popular Pocket PC. WinTV has always been known for providing the best technology to
consumers and our inclusion of SnapStream software reinforces this commitment."
SnapStream software supports most Pocket PC PDA devices including the iPAQ Pocket PC from Compaq, the Cassiopeia from Casio and the Jornada from Hewlett Packard. Additionally, the software supports a variety of home networking standards including ethernet, wireless (802.11b aka WiFi) and home
phoneline (HomePNA) home networking.
