DivXNetworks Licenses Industry Leading Video Compression Technology to SnapStream for PVR Software
October 9, 2003 (HOUSTON, TX and SAN DIEGO, CA) - DivXNetworks, Inc., the company that created the revolutionary, patent-pending DivX® video compression technology, and SnapStream Media Inc., a leading developer of digital entertainment products, today announced a technology
licensing and marketing partnership to bring DivX video to SnapStream Personal Video Station, an award-winning personal video recording (PVR) software.
The latest version of the software, Personal Video Station 3.3, will enable consumers to compress and playback television shows in high-quality DivX video directly on their PCs. Additionally, the two companies will work together to market the DivX-powered Personal Video Station to the global
community of millions of DivX users. DivX video compression technology is a hugely popular video encoder/decoder, thanks to the great reduction in encoded video file size with hardly any loss of picture quality. DivX technology has become the de facto standard for high-quality IP video, with more
than 100 million downloads and an average of more than 4 million downloads per month.
Personal Video Station 3 is a powerful and cost-effective PVR/DVR that allows PC users to record, watch and playback television broadcasts on a variety of devices. A free electronic programming guide (EPG) also lets users schedule recordings, even when they are away from home. The recorded shows
can then be viewed on any PC via the home network, downloaded onto handheld Pocket PCs or streamed through the Internet. Personal Video Station PVR software competes with products like Windows XP Media Center Edition and TiVo.
“The SnapStream Personal Video Station is an incredible PVR. It is one of the most powerful and versatile PVR products on the market that brings the power of personal video recording to PC users. With the addition of DivX, video consumers can capture and view their favorite television
shows in the highest visual quality,” said Jordan Greenhall, co-founder and CEO of DivXNetworks, Inc.
“DivX video provides incredible visual quality and great compression ratios, enabling our users to easily compress and store their favorite television shows on their PCs,” said Rakesh Agrawal of SnapStream. “We’re excited to work with the most popular MPEG-4 video
technology on the market to make our award-winning TV recording software an even better solution for the ultimate home entertainment PC. We look forward to reaching the global DivX community of videophiles and technology enthusiasts who could benefit greatly from a product like the easy-to-use
Personal Video Station.”
