General
1. How do I get HDTV in Beyond TV 4?
Details on using HDTV in Beyond TV 4 can be found in the HDTV
Setup Center. Briefly, you will need:
* The SnapStream Store has complete
HDTV bundles starting at only $99.99 that include HDTV antennas and
HDTV tuner cards.
2. How about upgrades to future point releases, ie Beyond TV 4.x?
All point releases to Beyond TV 4, ie Beyond TV 4.1, 4.2... 4.x, will
be available at no charge to Beyond TV 4 owners
3. Why should I upgrade to Beyond TV 4 if I don’t
plan on using HDTV?
Beyond TV 4 has many features besides
HDTV support. See our list of 50+ features and improvements for all the
new things in Beyond TV 4.
4. How do I use the FM radio function?
You will need a TV card with FM Radio capabilities
-- the Hauppauge PVR-150MCE and the Hauppauge PVR-500MCE are examples
of cards
with
FM Radio capabilities. Most media center edition compatible cards
have FM Radio tuners. Once you have your hardware installed, if you have
a TV
tuner card with FM
radio
capability, the Setup Wizard will
recognize it and add “FM radio” to your main menu.
5. I like the old Beyond TV 3 skin -- can I use that with Beyond
TV 4?
Yes, download BTV3skin.zip and
unzip its contents to the following directory:
C:\Program Files\SnapStream Media\Beyond TV\FSMedia\images
(if you installed Beyond TV somewhere else, adjust the directory location
accordingly)

Upgrade Process
6. Will my recordings from Beyond TV 3 still be
there when I upgrade to Beyond TV 4?
Yes, but only if you don’t uninstall Beyond TV
3 first. Follow the directions below to correctly upgrade while maintaining
your settings and recorded shows.
7. Will my old Beyond TV 3 product
key work in Beyond TV 4?
No, your old Beyond TV 3 key is not valid for Beyond
TV 4. When you upgrade to Beyond TV 4 you will receive a new product key
and your old Beyond TV 3 product key will be invalidated.
8. If I upgrade to Beyond TV 4, will I have to pay any subscription
fees?
No, Beyond TV 4 does not and will not involve any subscription fees.
9. Can I try Beyond TV 4 before I upgrade?
Yes, as a Beyond TV 3.x user, you can try Beyond TV 4
before you decide to upgrade. First, we recommend you backup your Beyond
TV 3.x settings. Follow these instructions:
- Make sure you have your Beyond TV 3.x product key recorded somewhere
- Run the current version of Beyond TV 3.x
- Right-click on the Beyond TV tray icon and choose "About Beyond
TV"
- Choose "Beyond TV Backup" and make a backup of your Beyond
TV 3 data
Next, download and install the
Beyond TV 4 trial without uninstalling your existing version of
Beyond TV 3.x. All of your previous Beyond TV 3 settings will get imported
into Beyond TV 4.
When you are ready to upgrade, choose "Buy Now" from within
Beyond TV 4 or visit the upgrade center.
Pricing
10. How
much will it cost to upgrade Beyond TV Link to work with Beyond TV 4?
Nothing. The upgrade of Beyond TV Link is free. To upgrade,
go to the Beyond TV Link download page. The Beyond TV Link Installer will
ask you for your product key. Enter the same key you used in Beyond TV
Link before, and you will be upgraded.
11. I purchased Beyond TV 3.x from the SnapStream
Store after July 26th (when the Beyond
TV 4 pre-announcement was made).
Am I entitled to a free upgrade?
Yes, you can get your free upgrade by clicking on
the "Upgrade
Now" button above. You will need your Beyond TV 3 product key
and, possibly, your SnapStream Store order number (something that
looks like this: snapstreamtest-12345)
You will be taken to a shopping cart where the purchase
price for Beyond TV 4 is $0. After you complete this process, you will
have a new Beyond TV 4 product key. When you run Beyond TV 4 for the
first time with this new product key, your old Beyond TV 3 product key
will be expired.
Note: This does not apply to Beyond TV SE or
Beyond TV Express users (OEM versions
of Beyond TV that are bundled with TV tuner cards from companies such
as Diamond and Visiontek). It only applies to purchasers of the full
retail version of Beyond TV.
12. I purchased Beyond
TV 3 from a retail store (e.g. Fry's) or through an online store (e.g.
amazon.com, newegg.com) after July
26th, 2005. Am I entitled to a free upgrade?
Yes, you can get a free upgrade by one of the two
methods, depending on when/where you purchased:
A) For most purchasers, send
an e-mail to info@snapstream.com with:
- Your
Beyond TV 3 product key (please type it into an e-mail --
no scans) and
- A copy of your purchase receipt for Beyond TV 3 (purchase
date must be on or after July 26th, 2005)
Your request will be manually processed and this can
take up to 10 business days -- please be patient with us! Once we complete
manual processing, we will send you upgrade instructions for Beyond TV
4 via e-mail.
B) For some purchasers (in particular, some customers
that purchased from Outpost.com after November 26th, 2005) simply
enter your Beyond TV 3 product key in the upgrade
wizard and it will take directly to a $0 "purchase" of
Beyond TV 4.
Note: This does not apply to Beyond TV SE or Beyond
TV Express users (OEM versions of Beyond TV that are bundled with TV tuner
cards from companies such as Diamond and Visiontek). It only applies to
purchasers of the full retail version of Beyond TV.
13. I’m using Beyond TV SE or Beyond TV
Express (the version that came with my TV tuner card). How do I upgrade?
You can upgrade to Beyond TV 4 by clicking on the "Upgrade
Now" button
above and entering your Beyond TV SE or Beyond TV Express product
key.
