Adjusting Video Settings
Home  Previous  Next

Video settings allow you to configure your viewing experience. Access the screen for adjusting video settings by selecting the "O" key on your keyboard while watching a recording or live TV in the Beyond TV ViewScape. You can also access this menu by clicking on the mouse bar that appears when you click on the video. As you adjust each setting, the picture you're viewing will change accordingly. Thus, you can make your adjustments and compare the results before exiting this screen. Once you've modified the settings to produce a desired result, select OK to save your changes and exit. A detailed explanation of each setting appears below.

Brightness
This setting changes the amount of light present in all colors. As you increase the value for brightness, you introduce more and more light into the video on your monitor. As you decrease the value for brightness, you introduce less and less light into the video on your monitor and approach darkness. Select a value between 1 and 100.

Contrast
This setting changes the relationship of light and dark areas of the picture. Increasing contrast makes the specific areas of light and dark more defined. Decreasing contrast makes the range between dark and light more subtle. Select a value between 1 and 100.

Gamma
In addition to affecting value, this setting also affects color. While you will note an overall change in brightness in the picture, gamma also changes the ratios of red to green to blue creating a picture that is more accurate or more like what we see in the everyday world. This adjustment also provides more clarity and definition in darker areas of the picture. Select a value between 1 and 100.

Deinterlacing
This option is not editable. It only shows the current deinterlacing mode. To change your deinterlacing mode, you will need to make the change in the Settings section of the Beyond TV ViewScape.

Aspect Ratio
The default aspect ratio of the screen in the Beyond TV ViewScape is 4:3. When this setting is on Auto, the picture will fill the window at this ratio as you resize it. When this setting is set to Stretch, the picture will fill the window at any size or aspect ratio. You can also set the picture for display at the specific aspect ratios of either 4:3 or 16:9. The picture will be "cropped" according to the ratio you select and the remaining part of the window will be black regardless of your window dimensions.

Note: When the Beyond TV ViewScape is in windowed mode (i.e. not filling the entire screen), the aspect ratio of the window itself is locked by default. This selection overrides the Stretch setting in the Adjust Video Settings window. Therefore, if you want to use a stretched window, deselect View > Lock Aspect Ratio from the file menu.

Reset to Defaults
If you've made a number of adjustments without achieving a satisfactory result, use this option to restore the default settings.
