The Recording Preferences page enables the user to configure how Beyond TV records files and where the files are placed.

Video Folder
The default folder* where Beyond TV will place the recordings it makes. To define a directory of your choice as a Video Folder, see the Video Folders section.

Recording File Format
The default file format* in which new recordings are made. For software-encode cards, this can be set to Windows Media or MPEG-2. For MPEG-2 hardware-encode cards, this can only be set to MPEG-2, such as in the example above.

Default Quality
The default video quality* at which recordings are made. To define a profile for video quality settings, see the Video Qualities section.

Pad Recordings
Beyond TV lets you "pad recordings" as a safety mechanism against variations in broadcast timing. For example, with "pad recordings" set to 2 minutes, a show scheduled to start at 7:30pm and end at 8:30pm would begin recording at 7:28pm and end at 8:32pm.

SmartSkip
Specifies whether SmartSkip™ chapters are to be generated immediately after a recording is finished, during off-peak times, or not at all.* The time and processing power required to generate SmartSkip™ chapters varies. Set this option according to the power of your PC and your PC usage pattern. "Off-peak times" can be configured based on how and when you use your PC in the ShowSqueeze section of the main menu in the WebaAdmin. By default, they are between 3am and 7am.

MPEG-2 Encoder
Specifies the software encoder used to create MPEG-2 recordings. This setting is only relevant on systems not using a hardware MPEG-2 encoder. "Default" provides better quality and DVD-compliant MPEG-2 streams but consumes more CPU resources.

*These settings are defaults and can be modified in a recording job's details.

Be sure to hit the Save Changes button at the bottom of the screen after making any modifications.
