Connect Satellite / Digital Cable Source
Home  Previous  Next

Most TV Tuner Cards have one coaxial TV input for video reception. The coaxial connection is the simplest to use because it carries both audio and video, and thus is the recommended connection type for all broadcast sources.

Many TV Tuner Cards have Composite and/or S-Video inputs, as well. These options are only available for Digital Cable or Satellite broadcast sources, or for recording from other sources such as video cameras.

Connecting the Video Source

Connect the video output of the external receiver box (decoder) to the TV tuner card using either a Coaxial, Composite, or S-Video connection (see below for examples) with an available cable.

·If using either Composite or S-Video connections, an audio connection will also be required. Refer to "Connecting the Audio Source" below for more information.
·An IR Blaster Tuner or Serial Cable Tuner will also have to be configured so that Beyond TV can change channels on the receiver box. Refer to the External Tuners section of the help documentation for information on this step.

Connect the coaxial cable from the coaxial output (usually labeled "Out to TV" or "TV") on the back of the receiver box to the coaxial input on the back of the TV tuner card.
Connect the S-Video cable from the S-Video output (usually labeled "S-Video Out") on the back of the receiver box to the S-Video input on the back of the TV tuner card.
Connect the composite cable from the composite video output (usually labeled "Video Out") on the back of the receiver box to the composite video input on the back of the TV tuner card.

Connecting the Audio Source (Composite / S-Video Only)

If using a composite or S-Video connection for the broadcast source, additional connections are required since S-Video connections do not carry audio, and Composite connections split the audio cable between video, left channel audio, and right channel audio.

To connect the audio source properly, an audio cable of one of three types is required. To identify the type of connection required at each end of the cable, use the steps below. Refer to the pictures provided to identify whether the audio connector is of the 3.5mm, or the composite, variety.

1.Locate the audio output on the receiver box and note the type of connection required.
2.Locate the audio input required on the computer. The input will be located in one of two places:
·If the setup instructions for the TV Tuner card did not require connecting the TV Tuner card to the computer's sound device with an audio cable:
Locate the audio input on the TV Tuner card and note the type of connection required.
·If the setup instructions for the TV Tuner card did require connecting the TV Tuner card to the computer's sound device with an audio cable:
Locate the audio input on the computer's sound device and note the type of connection required.

This most often results in a cable that has composite connections at one end, and a 3.5mm audio connection at the other. This type of cable is available in "cable packs" from the SnapStream Media online store at store.snapstream.com, which include the required external tuner.

Once the correct type of cable has been procured, connect the audio output on the receiver box to the appropriate connection on the computer.
